Poole were comfortable winners in a game, which on paper, was one of their hardest remaining fixtures and, with V.T. failing to pick up full points at Brading, they require just 5 points from their remaining games to secure the title. Moneyfields had the first chance of the game as Jamie Laidlaw was high & wide but Poole took the lead on 7 minutes. Mickey Hubbard's through ball was intercepted by a defender but his attempt to head the ball back to Dean Harris, the Moneyfields keeper, fell short and STUART BROWN nipped between them to score. On 12 minutes Poole doubled their lead when Carl Poore & Kevin Gill combined down the right to provide STUART BROWN on the edge of the penalty area. He was allowed the time & space to turn and guide the ball into the corner of the net, giving Harris no chance. Shortly after Poole were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area but Simon Browne's powerful shot was beaten away by Harris. Midway through the half Keving Gill had the ball in the net for Poole but his effort was disallowed for offside. On 33 minutes Poole were denied a penalty when the referee ruled a handball unintentional but when Stuart Brown was pulled down moments later, it was a clear penalty. Stuart Brown is not the regular penalty taker but he was given a chance to complete his hat trick. It was not to be as he scuffed his shot horribly wide. Moneyfields had difficulty coping with Poole's aerial bombardment and Fouad Hamodu and Charlie Austin were proving a real handful. Poole were also in full control in midfield starving the Moneyfields front men of any service. Jason Harvell was not called on to make a single save in the first half. Kevin Gill started the second half with an early effort that was wide. A reorganisation by Moneyfields meant they were better able to cope defensively but they could make no inroads into the Poole back line. Poole began to coast in the second half and chances at either end were few and far between. Charlie Austin should have done better when he headed straight at the keeper and Aaron Skelton, on as sub for the injured Lamin Dibba, was wide with a good effort. In the closing moments Russell Cook had a shot blocked on the line by Nathan Wall and then blasted the rebound high over the bar. Time still remained for Charlie Austin to cut in along the goal line and feed KEVIN GILL who had time to control the ball and score easily from 10 yards. This win sets Poole up to meet Dorchester Town in the Dorest Senior Cup Final at Weymouth on Tuesday evening.
