TOM Killick’s 300th game in charge of Poole Town was marred by a serious head injury to winger Trefor Smith. The Dolphins player took an accidental kick to the head and was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment. So the gloss was taken off what should have been a celebration of Killick’s sixth successive season in charge of the Tatnam Farm-based club despite their triumph through goals from Stuart Brown and Steve Smith. Killick, whose high-riding side remain three points behind Premier Division leaders Bemerton with three games in hand, said: “We lost Trefor to a serious head injury in the second half and he had to stay overnight in Poole Hospital. “He had a lot of stitches in a head wound and was due to have a scan to see if he has a fracture. “It was one of those incidents where he ducked to head the ball and the other player put his foot up to kick it. “Trefor ended up getting a boot in the head. He sustained a badly cut forehead, although it was a complete accident. “The best case scenario is he might just be out of a couple of weeks and the worst is that it could be for much longer. “That incident put a dampener on our win.” Killick added: “Trefor missed all of last season. He was on a university placement in London and didn’t play any football. “It took him until two or three weeks ago to return to his best form. He was just becoming the player we know he is. “For this to have happened now is a real shame because he’s a big player for us.” Brown gave Dolphins a first-half lead when he lofted the ball over Romsey’s goalkeeper and Steve Smith made the game safe when he converted Mickey Hubbard’s cross. Killick said: “Romsey have had some great results of late. They’ve beaten Wimborne twice and when they play at home they are awkward. “They are a physical side, so it was a great result for us, although to lose Trefor was disappointing.” Poole’s league visit to Christ-church tomorrow has been called off because Priory have to visit Farnborough North End in a re-arranged Hampshire Senior Cup clash. Poole Town: Jones, Poore, Whitley, Lloyd, Dibba, T Smith (Sturgess 60), Preston, Skelton (Richardson 70), Hubbard, Brown (S Smith 55), Cook. Unused subs: Dovell, Gill.
