Once Poole had settled into the game their long unbeaten run was rarely under threat. However Fareham nearly caught them cold as, within seconds of the start, Gary Austin waltzed through a static defence only to put his shot wide with ony the keeper to beat.
Minutes later Fareham had the next chance when Austin?s shot was deflected wide and from corner Tommy Woodward shot just over. In the next move Aaron Case had an appeal for a penalty turned down, claiming he was impeded in going for a through ball.
After a quarter hour in which Fareham had dominated the chances, Poole took control of midfield and the game. Andy Culliford forced a save from Dan Forster then Steve Richardson had a header cleared off the line after the keeper had fumbled.
On the half hour Poole took the lead when Stuart Brown fed KEVIN GILL who looped a left foot shot over Forster into top corner.
Shortly after Richardson crossed to Stuart Brown who shot just wide and finally in the last minute of the half Andy Culliford hit the post and Brown was unable to convert the rebound.
Half time: Fareham Town 0 Poole Town 1
The second half started as the first had finished with Poole in the ascendancy. On 50 minutes Stuart Brown was put through by Aaron Skelton but his shot was smothered by Forster. Shortly after Culliford shot wide after Brown had flicked on Gill?s cross.
After 64 minutes Poole doubled their lead. Carl Poore started the move which was carried on by Brown who fed DAVE STURGESS. As he cut in from the right he drove a shot into the left hand corner from 16 yards.
Jason Harvell in the Poole goal was a virtual spectator but his opposite number was kept busy as Poole cruised through the remainder of the game. Forster was forced to make several saves, the best of which was from a Skelton header which he tipped over.
In the final minute Forster conceded the final goal though there was a stroke of luck. JAMES BAILEY-PEARCE, on as substitute, drove a shot against the base of the post and the ball bounced back off the goalkeeper into the net.
