Back to Tatnam for the first time in a month and the visit of in form Romsey Town for this crucial league game. The only changes from Tuesday night's Vase game at Brislington came in defence with Lamin Dibba still not 100% fit and Carl Poore taking his place after returning from suspension.

Given the weather, a decent crowd of 205 turned up for this game, the majority of whom were wondering if Poole could continue where they had left off on Tuesday night. The good news for Dolphins supporters was that this was exactly what their team did. Right from the start they looked confident and they got into their passing game very quickly.

Poole created numerous excellent chances during the first half and could well have gone in with five or six on the board. Despite the number of misses it was encouraging to once again see the Poole players carving out the chances. On ten minutes, after much early pressure, a ball into the box found Russell Cook and his turn and shot was well saved by the keeper conceding a corner. From the corner Stu Brown met the ball at the near post but his header could only find the side netting.

Poole continued to dominate but there was a scare on 23 minutes when home keeper Jones went on walkabout and found himself halfway in his own half and stranded. A lob from the halfway line bounced agonisingly close to the Poole goal before going the other side of the post for a goal kick.

Back came Poole and a Hubbard freekick on the half hour saw a header from Skelton go just wide. On 37 minutes Stu Brown found himself wide right just in the Romsey half. Looking up he saw nothing on and held on to the ball very well. Carl Preston sprinted from the half way line to get into the box and on arriving Brown picked him out with a fantastic pass and Preston's shot whistled just wide.

Russell Cook got in again on 40 minutes but his shot across the face of the goal went just wide of the far post - the Romsey goal was living a charmed life. Poole remained patient however and on the stroke of half time they got the all important first goal. Trefor Smith looked for openings on the edge of the box but finding none he laid the ball back to Hubbard and his exquisite shot curled round the keeper into the top right corner - a fine move and great finish.

Half time: 1-0.

At half time the heavens opened and it was monsoon conditions for the rest of the game. Had this rain started at 3.00pm there would have been serious doubts over the game finishing. As it was the pitch held up well and only started holding water in the last ten minutes or so.

Despite the conditions both sides applied themselves well and Poole got the ball down more and played shorter passes along the ground. On 57 minutes good play down the left saw Preston play the ball to Cook and his low shot came off the far post and rebounded across just inside the left hand post to make it 2-0.

Steve Smith replaced Stu Brown with an hour gone and on 75 minutes Sturgess and Dovell came on for Skelton and Cook respectively. Poole looked more than comfortable and on 80 minutes some more patient build up from Poole saw some indecision in the Romsey box and Ryan Dovell nipped in to dink the ball over the keeper to score his first goal for Poole.

An excellent performance again from Poole who just never allowed Romsey to get into the game.
