With two days to go to the end of the season Poole's magnificent unbeaten league record of 40 games spanning 257 days this season finally came to an end. A large crowd turned up at Tatnam to see two very in form rivals go head to head for the fourth time this season. Both line-ups were incredibly strong despite both clubs having played just 48 hours previous.

Unfortunately for Poole this game proved to be just too much after recent exertions. Wimborne were wound up to the extreme going into the game and they just had the look of a team that was determined to win no matter what. They did look irresistible.

Poole needed a good start but unfortunately a Pete Smith corner on six minutes found the head of Scott Joyce and the ball looped over Harvell to give the visitors the lead. It was a lead which, in all honesty, never looked like being countered.

On 10 minutes an Austin cross into the Magpies area was hoofed high in the air and after Brown passed to Culliford his shot was well saved by Walker-Harris. On 20 minutes a Skelton freekick was flicked on by Andy Culliford and Luke Whitley just failed to connect at the far post. This was Poole's best sustained pressure of the match but on 25 minutes Wimborne broke and James Stokoe cut inside and curled a fine left foot shot beyond Harvell into the left hand corner. Things got worse five minutes later when Simon Browne made a rare error at the back and allowed Dave Town in score quite easily. A three goal lead for Wimborne at the break and they deserved it.

Half time: 0-3

Bailey-Pearce replaced an injured Andy Culliford at half time and, needing an early goal, things looked up for Poole on 50 minutes when a Hubbard corner was headed home by Lamin Dibba. Memories of last season's 4-3 win against Wimborne in the Dorset Senior Cup after being three down at half time came flooding back.

Poole pushed forward but the Wimborne defence looked solid. The Walker brothers were absolutely immense in this game orchestrating everything at the back and marking Charlie Austin out of the game. Steve Smith replaced Stuart Brown and Dave Sturgess eventually came on for Simon Browne. However, this was not to be Poole's day and Wimborne carried on pressing looking for more goals.

On 87 minutes Joyce dribbled round a clutch of players in the Poole area to score a superb individual goal and the Poole performance was summed up when Harvell made just about his only error of the season in injury time when he passed the ball out straight to Dave Town who played it back past him to complete the rout.

Bitterly disappointing to see the unbeaten run ended but full credit to Wimborne. They came to play and looked as good as any team that has played Poole this season.
