The start of a tough top of the table double header week saw Poole Town travel to third placed Moneyfields. A tactical change was made by manager Tom Killick with Bailey-Pearce being dropped to the bench and Aaron Skelton coming into the midifield. Simon Browne was again on the bench as Mike Walker started at left wing back. Right from the start the Poole formation looked to be working well with Skelton, Richardson and Hubbard winning a lot of ball in midfield and giving good service to the lively front two. On 9 minutes Dibba headed home a corner but the referee blew up for an earlier foul and the goal was disallowed. From the freekick Moneyfields broke forward and a good move ended with a thunderous shot which skimmed the top of the Poole bar. It was shaping up to be a close game. Within three minutes Moneyfields again broke and this time a long range effort from 35 yards had to be pushed away to safety by keeper Harvell. Poole broke the deadlock on 27 minutes. A trademark Hubbard freekick curled into the back post and Charlie Austin rose to head home superbly and put the Dolphins ahead. Five minutes later and things got even better for Poole when they doubled their lead and left the home side in disarray. A brilliant block tackle from Dibba in his own box saw the ball run out to Taffy Richardson. He passed to Stu Brown and the striker looked up and curled the pass of the match beyond the Moneyfields right back and into the path of Austin. The young hotshot allowed the ball to bounce before volleying home a great shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. Poole were now in control and once again the defence looked in top form. Mike Walker looked extremely impressive again - - what a key signing he could turn out to be this season. On 44 minutes Poole nearly scored again from another good move. Stu Brown again provided the telling ball, this time across the face of the box to an unmarked Austin and although he chested it down his lob over the advancing keeper also just cleared the crossbar. A very very good first half performance. Half time: 0-2 If Moneyfields had any thoughts of getting back into the match they were ended on 54 minutes when Charlie Austin grabbed his second hat-trick of the season. This time it was Skelton who provided the freekick and Austin was there again getting up above everyone to head home his 17th goal from 17 appearances this season. The match got a little niggly as the half wore on with Gill and substitute Phillips picking up yellows for Poole. A Moneyfields player picked up a straight red card for a challenge on Kevin Gill on 67 minutes and several other home players went in the book as well. As well as Phillips (for Brown), manager Killick also brought on Steve Smith and Dave Sturgess for Austin and Skelton respectively. There was little goalmouth action in the remaining twenty minutes as Poole cruised to a surprisingly comfortable win. It was a powerful performance from Poole and the perfect build-up for the match at VT next Saturday which will surely be a much harder proposition. |
